Cleaving

Some common synonyms of cleave are adhere, cling, cohere, and stick. While all these words mean “to become closely attached,” cleave stresses attachment strength. I spent the last months of the Masters in Fine Art at the University of Middlesex preparing for the final show. My installation consists of a virtual reality experience where the viewer enters the exhibition space and wears the 3D viewer to find themselves in the 3D representation of the same exhibition space. My goal is to create an ironic moment between the digital and analogue spheres. The expectation of entering a virtual reality utterly different from the physical one is disillusioned. As a result, only small digital interventions are added to the virtual space, artistic appropriation of the exhibition space. Maybe the reality is not just what we can touch, as long as we can interact. Or perhaps art can make the invisible visible, but this is too much.
